Introduction

Migraines suck. The pain is real, relenting, soul-crushing, and when you have others depending on you, it is also inconvenient. I have apologized too many times for having migraines throughout my life... for over 40 years in fact. I have had to cancel events, leave parties, lost work, sit on the side of the road to wait out the pain, have others drive me places... the list goes on and on and on...

And having chronic migraine pain changes you in ways most won't understand. Your reactions, patience, behaviors can be very different from pain and non-pain days. Some people manage to push through because they have to... faking the pain is not there till they "make it" or the pain subsides. While others are not so lucky and give up... thinking there will be no better tomorrow, they are alone, and the darkness surrounds them.

I have been on both sides of the coping and managing game and on the edge of giving up. But, it was because of friends, family, medical professionals, and my fortitude that I am here today wanting to share my story and help others. I wanted to add my voice to the ones in pain, and my goal is to give hope to the lost.

Wow... just to let you know... that was a lot for me. Opening up and being that vulnerable about my migraines and wanting to share this in a podcast is scary and empowering.

The Migraine Monkeys Podcast is meant to share my and other migraine suffer's experiences and explore the knowledge from experts who have made it their life missions to help, study, and cure the pain. This voyage is a holistic look at what migraines are, how they are being treated, and also how sufferers find relief and manage their pain and expectations.

The Host

I am Sean "Monkey" Makiney. I have managed and suffered from migraines since I was a child. With nearly 40 years of treatments, pain, and the emotional struggles I understand what migraines are and how it feels from a very personal point of view.

I am a successful podcaster and professional writer. Using my radio and tevelvision production degree I have been producing and hosting podcasts since the mid 90's, before they were ever called podcasts. Recently, I produced a podcast in the heath and relationship category called The Brown Chicken Brown Cow Podcast where we explored many aspects of Sex-Body-Gender Positive topics. With a team of producers and hosts, we elevated this interview show to number 1 on the iTunes Health and Sexuality categories.

I am also a humorist and I bring heart, humor, and a lot of respect to the topics and guests I interview and invite them to openly share their knowledge. With Mingraine Monkeys I want to share and explore what migraines are, the treatments, personal stories (including mine), and hopefully give others information and hope with honesty, heart, and a little humor.

Limited Series Podcast

This is a limited series that will extend and conclude at a natural point in the show's arch. We currently have planned 24 episodes with space for additional topics as they arise and can naturally fit into the show.

We will record and fully produce half of the planned shows and release the first three episodes onto as many podcast channels as possible. This will allow us to quickly gain viewership and notice on the podcast algorithms, moving the show up the "new and noteworthy" categories. The remaining shows will be recorded and produced ongoing from there forward.
